Clint Anderson (pictured) has been described as a “consummate professional and one of the smartest and dedicated co-workers around.” It’s high praise indeed and, when coupled with his efforts as HUB International president of specialty practice, has contributed to Anderson being named one of Insurance Business’s Top Producers 2018.

Anderson has 20 years of experience in insurance consulting, specializing in reducing employers’ total cost of risk. At his previous regional brokerage, he grew his book of business to nearly $10 million before moving over to HUB in 2016. Anderson joined HUB as president of its specialty practice, splitting his time between the company’s Chicago and Dallas offices. His main focus is building out the contingent workforce space globally. Within the last 18 months, his team has written $5.8 million worth of annualized revenues.

HUB’s central region president, Neil Hughes, said Anderson “is so focused on identifying client problems and then finding appropriate solutions for them. When Clint tells me something, I can take it to the bank that he is telling me the truth and not trying to ‘sell me on something,’ and I can imagine all of his clients feel the same way about him.”

We caught up with Anderson to find out more about his time in the industry:

How did you get started in the industry?

I finished a Master’s degree in business and my sister worked for UNUM and arranged an interview for me there. I was a Missouri State Trooper at the time and was very excited about the financial opportunities in insurance.

What are the best parts of your job?

The best part of my job is building unique products that separate Hub from other brokerage firms.  It’s all about bringing top solutions to the customer!

What challenges have you faced in your role?

The travel is tough as I generally spend three to four days a week on the road.  The work/life balance is hard from the road but when I’m at home, it’s strictly home life only.

What have you learned from your current place of work?

Neil Hughes has instilled in me to always put your family first. If someone works smarter, rather than harder, they can still reach top producer status. I work a lot less than I used to, but I continue to sell at the highest level inside Hub International.

What advice would you give to someone working their way up the insurance ladder?

The industry is very small in the sense that you should never burn bridges. And secondly, always be true to yourself.

If you weren’t working in insurance, what would you be doing?

My dream job out of college was to work for the FBI, but there was a hiring freeze on federal jobs back when I graduated from college, so I went to work as a Missouri State Trooper. If I had been able to get into the FBI, I wouldn’t have had an insurance carrier.

What’s your favorite hobby?

Exercise is my so-called hobby. As you get older, it’s a must!
