The H.W. Kaufman Financial Group has announced that Alan Jay Kaufman, CEO, has joined St. John’s University Peter J. Tobin College of Business’ School of Risk Management (SRM), Insurance and Actuarial Science Board of Overseers.

Kaufman, who is recognized as an active and outspoken advocate for educating and attracting talent, has spearheaded programs in both his company and in academia. The Kaufman Financial Group, through his leadership, vision, and innovative programs, has reduced the average age of its more than 1,700-person employee base to 40.3 years – compared to the industry average of 54 years.

“As a new board member with one of the premiere insurance institutions in the country, my enthusiasm for attracting additional bright, energetic future professionals to our industry has never been greater. In an era where few degrees are offered in insurance, it is our responsibility to develop the leaders of tomorrow, help them establish prosperous and fulfilling careers – and perhaps plant the seeds of new enterprises,” Mr. Kaufman said.

To tune-up Kaufman Financial Group and insurance companies’ respective talent pools, Mr. Kaufman and his team have established many innovative education programs like The Kaufman Institute, Endowed Professorship, Kaufman Emerging Leaders Program (KELP), and the Kaufman Advanced Management Program (KAMP).

“Alan Jay Kaufman is a distinguished leader in the field and a strong activist for insurance industry education. He is a welcome addition to our board and will help a great deal in perpetuating our history of insurance excellence,” Brandon W. Sweitzer, Dean, The Peter J. Tobin College of Business, said in a press release.

In early 2017, St. John’s Tobin College of Business was second among the 15 best risk management and insurance degree programs highlighted by the Online Accounting Degree Programs website, which is a leading internet resource for business students.
