Jeffrey Case started his career filling a void in CGL policies. He is now the vice president of, and a construction broker at, Hull & Company, and heads the environmental group as a practice leader.

Being in the business for almost three decades, Case enjoys making connections with younger brokers entering the insurance space and guiding them through deals.

Beyond his work responsibilities, he has a passion for skiing, so much so that he was involved in organizing the California Insurance Professional Ski Day Charity Fundraiser, benefiting the Child Abuse Prevention Council.

In this Q&A, the VP looks back on the early days of his career and how those experiences developed into the broad range of work under his management umbrella today.

How did your early experiences writing contractor’s pollution policies lead you to your current role?

Basically, we started writing contractors pollution policies to fill the new mold exclusion gaps in CGL policies in the mid-1990s, with a handful of carriers that wrote pollution coverages at that time, and that morphed into environmental consultants, contractors , EIL, supported auto, supported work, energy related risks, fire water restoration and solar contractors.

What is the most fulfilling aspect of your work in the insurance space?

The most fulfilling part of the business is the friendships and relationships that I have made after 25 years in the business with retail agent clients, carrier underwriters and other brokers within our company. I enjoy working with people I’ve known , making new relationships with younger Gen X brokers and helping them find and place their deals, and solving coverage needs for the client that helps the insured satisfy a contract or makes a banker happy or closes a loan.

Tell us briefly about your company and its role in the industry. What makes it unique?

We think we help bring a technical solid E&S brokerage firm to the California central valley. Because we are a national broker, we have great depth and quality of carriers on both the binding and brokerage side of the house. We can assist [anyone] from small artisans to complex generals including wraps.

If you were not working in the insurance space, what would you be doing right now?

Maybe something with boats – I really enjoy being on the water.

What are your passions or hobbies outside insurance?

I enjoy spending time with my family, skiing, boating, and wine collecting and tasting as well as country music events.
