London Bradley, president and chief executive of Allstate Insurance Company of Canada, has been elected chair of the Insurance Institute of Canada’s board of governors.
Bradley (pictured) was elected at the Institute’s 73rd annual general meeting on October 27. The Institute is the professional education body for Canada’s P&C insurance industry and awards designations including the Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) and Fellow Chartered Insurance Professional (FCIP).
“As the industry continues to evolve, the Insurance Institute remains instrumental in developing the expertise, critical thinking, and leadership that enables insurance professionals to make a meaningful difference in the lives and businesses of our customers,” Bradley said.
Peter Hohman, the Institute’s president and chief executive, said Bradley’s expertise and commitment would help it continue raising standards and equip professionals for an increasingly complex environment.
Bradley has led Allstate Canada since May 2022, when he succeeded Ryan Michel. He also oversees its subsidiaries, Pembridge Insurance, Pafco Insurance and Ivantage Insurance Brokers. He joined the Allstate Corporation in 1998 as an exclusive agent in the US Midwest and moved into sales leadership in 2001. Before coming to Canada, he was senior vice president and East Zone leader for Allstate’s US sales and distribution.
He also sits on the board of the Insurance Bureau of Canada.
Bradley takes the role as the industry works to attract and develop talent. The Institute’s demographic research projected that 8.5% of the P&C workforce would retire within five years, including about 15% of senior management, IB reported earlier this year.
The Institute has responded with its Insurance Careers Platform, launched in April, and outreach such as its upcoming Insurance Take Our Kids to Work Day on November 4, aimed at Grade 9 students.
The chair of the Institute’s board helps set direction for professional education across the P&C sector. With AI changing underwriting and claims work and experienced staff retiring, the Institute faces pressure to update its designations and reach new entrants faster.
Bradley’s background in sales and distribution, along with Allstate Canada’s mix of exclusive agents and broker-distributed businesses, brings a distribution-focused perspective to that work.
