DUAL International, the underwriting division of international insurance group Hyperion Insurance, has launched a Canadian arm.

The DUAL Canada team will “specialize in creating simple insurance solutions for small and mid-sized Canadian markets,” a release said. It will be led by both Michael Shore and Dave Alexander. Shore and Alexander’s combined expertise in specialty lines insurance covers a broad range of liability products, such as professional liability, management liability, cyber, information technology, crime, legal expenses, general liability, and property.

“We are very pleased to launch DUAL in Canada and to do so with a great team in Mike Shore and Dave Alexander,” said DUAL Canada president and DUAL North America director Phil Hoyt. “Their proven underwriting and industry knowledge are perfectly suited to DUAL’s business model and ability to provide brokers with superior service, products, and leading technology to enhance the placement of SME business in Canada.”

DUAL’s expansion into Canada comes after Caisse depot et placement du Quebec (CDPQ) invested US$400 million in Hyperion late last year. Also last year, the insurance group entered the Mexican market by partnering with a local insurance broker, Grupo Ordás.
