Red River Mutual will be awarding over $150,000 in grants to ten select communities in Manitoba and Saskatchewan, to help renovation and/or beautification projects for beloved community spaces.

The Spruce Up Your Story campaign, now in its third year, was opened to nominations for community space renovations earlier this year; submissions were being accepted until May 31, 2022. According to Red River Mutual, it had received nearly 150 submissions from across the Prairies.

The projects were evaluated based on community use and connection, the projects’ commitment to sustainability, and connections to a local Red River Mutual-affiliated insurance brokerage. A total of ten projects were selected for the grants, including a youth space in North Battleford, SK that needs to fix up its basement; a curling club in Pinawa, MB that requires new lighting; a cultural centre in Big River, SK that needs finishing touches to its window and door upgrade; and a library in Teuton, MB that wants to beautify its outdoor space.

“We’re in our third year of this initiative now and it has grown and adapted with our communities, but our focus on people and their stories remains the same, said Red River Mutual president and CEO Brian Esau. “We’re grateful to further connect with the places where we do business and make a positive impact in a way that is meaningful for people who call those places home.”

Since it began Spruce Up Your Story, Red River Mutual has provided more than $450,000 to support 27 different communities.
