Westland Insurance Group has closed its acquisition of MIG Insurance Group, expanding the independent P&C insurance broker’s presence in Manitoba.

Headquartered in Portage La Prairie, MB, MIG Insurance Group has eight branches throughout the province. Founded in 1995, the brokerage’s professional advisors offer residential, auto, life, travel, recreation, farm, and commercial insurance services.

The acquisition of MIG Insurance adds more than 50 Manitoba-based employees to Westland Insurance’s team.

“We’re excited to be expanding our footprint in Manitoba with such a prominent and well-respected broker, and we are fortunate to be partnering with MIG’s owners, the Gilbert family, in a province that’s very important to Westland,” said Westland Insurance president and COO Jamie Lyons.

Lyons also noted that MIG is an “innovative, digitally advanced brokerage focussed on providing product solutions that exceed customer expectations.”

Earlier this year, MIG Insurance had formed a partnership with APOLLO Exchange, which allows MIG’s clients and brokers to access APOLLO’s digital marketplace.

“This is a great fit for MIG and we are thrilled to be joining Westland Insurance,” added MIG Insurance Group president & CEO Brian Gilbert. “Our values align and both companies share a deep commitment to our communities, and I know that our customers and employees will greatly benefit from this partnership.”

Last week, Westland Insurance Group closed the acquisition of the Fort Frances, ON-based Gillons Insurance Brokers. Notably, the transaction was Westland Insurance’s first acquisition in Ontario.
