Westland Insurance Group has closed its acquisition of Gillons Insurance Brokers.

The deal marks a milestone in Westland Insurance’s history as the brokerage’s first acquisition in Ontario.

Headquartered in Fort Frances, ON, Gillons Insurance Brokers has 11 locations across northwestern Ontario. Founded in 1924, the firm’s professional insurance advisors are experts in residential, auto, life, travel, recreation, farm, and commercial insurance services.

“The advisors at Gillons Insurance Brokers have a long and established history of providing expert insurance solutions to the people of northwestern Ontario. We are so excited to be partnering with this company and their leadership team, Myron Romaniuk, Tracy McDonald, and Trevor Fitzgerald,” said Westland Insurance president and COO Jamie Lyons. “As we move into this new market, we look forward to working with them and continuing our commitment to provide best-in-class commercial, personal, and life insurance solutions for our customers.”

The acquisition gives Westland 11 branches and more than 90 employees in Ontario. Following the deal, Westland will have more than 140 offices in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario.

Last month, Westland Insurance purchased the insurance brokerage business of Innovation Credit Union, a credit union based in Swift Current, SK. The deal was Westland Insurance’s second acquisition in Saskatchewan.
