Cyber insurtech BOXX Insurance is gearing up for its “next phase of growth” and has named its first chief financial officer, who recently served as Aviva Canada’s co-CFO, and hired its broker distribution head from Beazley.

Cheryl Hobbs (pictured right), a former Beazley territory leader, has been named BOXX Insurance head of broker distribution, Canada, while Alain Jullienne (pictured left) has been appointed BOXX Insurance CFO.

Jullienne has 20 years of financial services and accounting experience, having held finance and strategic leadership roles at Aviva Canada for 15 years prior to holding the interim CFO position.

"I am incredibly excited to join BOXX at such an important stage in its growth journey,” Jullienne said. “As CFO, I look forward to helping build an exciting business that can scale smart and achieve continued success.”

Hobbs, who joins from Beazley, has 20 years of industry sales and leadership experience within business development and broker management, in addition to underwriting at insurers and managing general agents (MGAs).

“[BOXX’s] innovative and client centric approach is what attracted me to this position,” said Hobbs. “I look forward to connecting with our broker partners to help them deliver world-class solutions that will meet their clients’ risk needs.”

Phil Baker, BOXX Canada president, said: “As BOXX continues to see more demand for our products and services, Cheryl will play an integral role in managing our expanding number of broker relationships.

“I am excited to work with her again and to see her help our broker partners close the ever-developing cyber risk gap for their clients.”

The new hires come as BOXX has achieved 10x growth and has seen US$24.5 million of growth capital injected into the business in the last two years. In January, Zurich Insurance led a series B round of funding for the insurtech, which raised US$14.4 million.

“The new additions to our senior team are top quality and I am delighted they felt BOXX was the right place for them to continue their successful career journeys,” said BOXX co-founder and CEO Vishal Kundi.
