Green Shield Canada (GSC) and Benecaid – both part of the GSC group of companies – are launching a new health benefits solution designed with Canadian small businesses with 25 employees or less in mind.

Honeybee Select is the new solution which offers digital benefits to employers and allows them to select the standardized plan that best fits their needs. Purchasing benefits on the platform is streamlined, as employers can receive a guaranteed quote within 24 hours. All the core benefits being offered on the digital platform are provided by GSC, which include health, dental, and travel (with optional pooled benefits provided by “leading insurers”), and all plans will come with mental health coverage provided by Inkblot Therapy, another GSC company.

Apart from allowing SMEs to access GSC’s benefits offerings on a single platform, Honeybee Select also enables employers to select add-on allowance accounts for additional coverage. Employers will also have access to exclusive vendor partners who are available only through Honeybee Select.

“We’re excited about the impact that Honeybee Select can have as a modern, innovative alternative in this market,” said Benecaid president Darren Sacks.

Sacks added that GSC has witnessed first-hand how “too many choices and complexities” with health benefits coverage can be overwhelming for small businesses, which is why GSC’s Honeybee Select is a simple way for employers to begin their benefits journey while offering their staff the coverage they need “on a budget the company can afford.”

In a release, GSC also noted that effective August 01, electronically submitted health and dental claims for Honeybee Select plan members will be processed through the GSC adjudication platform.

“Honeybee Select really showcases the breadth and depth of the GSC group of companies,” said GSC VP of insurance Shaun McKee. “We’re proud to be bringing GSC’s adjudication system – and our health and dental expertise – to a solution that could be a game-changer for small businesses.”

The Toronto-based employee benefits provider Benecaid was originally acquired by GSC in 2020. The company has been operating since 2000, and prior to its acquisition had over $90 million in coverage provided and served more than 150,000 Canadians.
