Saskatchewan Mutual Insurance (SMI) has announced that it will donate $33,000 to Shock Trauma Air Rescue Service (STARS).

A release said that SMI will present the $33,000 donation to STARS on December 05, 2019, at the STARS Saskatoon hangar. The donation will be evenly split to support STARS’ efforts throughout Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta, to ensure that its emergency services are accessible by all Prairie residents.

“SMI understands the vital role that STARS plays in the Prairies. Every second counts in an emergency and with so many rural communities with limited resources, those precious seconds can add up to disastrous results,” explained SMI president and CEO Shelley Willick.

Willick also said that SMI recognizes STARS’ commitment to serving the communities that have made the mutual insurer what it is today, and the donation is SMI’s way of saying thanks for “an amazing cause.”

“The generous support from Saskatchewan Mutual Insurance will help STARS to continue fighting for the lives of critically ill and injured patients,” stated STARS development officer, major gifts Tammy Beauregard. “At STARS, it’s all about the patient, and we are thrilled that the support from SMI enables us to help Saskatchewan people when they need it the most.”
