The ARAG Group recorded gross written premiums of €3.16 billion in the 2025 financial year, marking a 13.2% increase from the previous year and surpassing the company’s target of €3 billion in premium income five years ahead of schedule, according to the Düsseldorf-based insurer.

The figures, presented at the company’s annual financial results press conference, showed that premium income grew by more than €340 million year on year. The underwriting result improved to €105 million from €96 million in 2024, reversing the decline recorded in the previous year. Profit from ordinary business activities reached nearly €150 million, up from €141 million, while consolidated net income stood at €89 million.

“ARAG delivered a confident performance last year. The Group once again achieved substantial growth and further improved its results. Our growth target of €3 billion in premium income has already been exceeded. This milestone was reached five years earlier than planned,” said Dr Renko Dirksen, chairman of the Management Board of ARAG SE.

In Germany, premium income reached €1.75 billion, a 13% increase on the previous year. International business contributed €1.41 billion, up 13.5% compared to 2024. The Group managed a total of 14 million contracts at the end of 2025.

The combined ratio improved to 89.4% from 90.6% in 2024. Claims incurred, net of reinsurance, rose from €1.5 billion to more than €1.6 billion, although the Group claims ratio remained unchanged at 54.6%. The cost ratio fell to 34.8% from 35.9%. Investment gains edged down slightly to €157 million from €161.5 million in 2024.

Legal expenses insurance, the Group’s largest segment, posted premium growth of 11.5% to €1.82 billion. Health insurance recorded the strongest growth among segments, rising 18.4% to €886.3 million in gross premiums. The composite segment grew 10.9% to €430 million.

In the first quarter of 2026, the Group reported premium income of €956 million, compared with €868 million in the same period a year earlier, representing a 10% increase. German business expanded by 9%, with health insurance leading at 15% growth and legal insurance rising 12%. International business grew 11%.

“Economic success is not a reason for ARAG to slow down. We look to the future with confidence. Our robust business model, our innovative strength, our strong market position, and our excellent team form the basis for continued successful development. Our ambition remains unchanged: we perform, and we deliver for our customers,” Dirksen said.
