Direct Line Group has released a report detailing its efforts in promoting Black inclusion in the workplace. The insurer also pledged to report its ethnicity pay gap beginning next year.

The report, the insurer said, is part of its initiatives to promote diversity and inclusion, which include the introduction of new recruitment principles and setting targets to increase Black representation in leadership.

While companies are not legally required to publish their ethnicity pay gap, Direct Line said it is voluntarily publishing this information to be more transparent and better understand where to focus future diversity and inclusion initiatives.

“We’re committed to building a diverse and inclusive business – where our workforce is representative of society, where our people feel free to be themselves and succeed in their careers and where we make a positive impact in our communities,” said Vicky Wallis, chief people officer of Direct Line. “We do this, first and foremost, as it’s the right thing to do, but it’s also key to our success in a competitive market as it leads to more innovation, greater adaptability and better decision making. This report shows that, although there is still much more to do, we are moving in the right direction.”
