Non-Profits & Charities

Jackson Lee Underwriting (JLU) has committed to running a year-long campaign in support of Cyclists Fighting Cancer (CFC).

According to the managing general agent, its charity partnership with CFC will see JLU staff undertake fundraising events throughout the year. The likes of joint managing director Nick Mohan and leisure head Graeme Hamilton will also represent the firm at CFC’s Meon Valley Spring Classic cycle event on March 22.

Founded by triathlete and cyclist Mike Grisenthwaite, CFC helps young people with cancer via activity and exercise by providing bikes, tandems, and specially adapted trikes. Grisenthwaite, who has also worked with Macmillan Cancer Care and the Department of Health as an adviser on cancer and exercise, was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2000.

“CFC is a charity with a massively inspiring story,” stated Mohan. “What better way to encourage kids and teenagers to get active again after what can be years of treatment and hospitalisation?

“All our staff will get involved with #20in20, doing 20 awesome things during 2020 – whether a walk, run, bike, swim, in fact absolutely anything! It doesn’t have to be sporty; we will organise a range of activities and keep our supporting brokers updated throughout the year.”

The joint MD added that the company will be entering teams for CFC cycle events.

Mohan explained: “We wanted to support a charity this year that would become the focus for all our events. It helps that some of our staff are already keen cyclists, already having completed two gruelling rides from London to the BIBA Conference in Manchester in 2016 and 2018 raising money for charitable causes.

“Ever since then we’ve had the cycling bug and we’re delighted to use that passion now to support CFC.”
