Specialty (re)insurer Canopius Group has announced the appointment of Sam Harrison as group chief underwriting officer.

In his new role, Harrison will report to Canopius Group CEO Neil Robertson and will join the Canopius leadership team.

Harrison joins the company from QBE Insurance, where he has spent most of his 30-year insurance career. He most recently served as QBE’s group CUO. in that role, Harrison oversaw a large portfolio of underwriting businesses across 27 counties. He led business in the UK, Australia, the US and Asia.

In his new role, Harrison will lead Canopius Group’s portfolio across its three regional business units in London, the US and Bermuda, and the Asia-Pacific region.

“We are delighted to welcome Sam to Canopius,” Robertson said. “Canopius is now underway with a transformational three-year growth plan that will see us cement our status as a leading global specialty P&C (re)insurer.”

Canopius Group recently bolstered its professional lines capabilities in the US and Bermuda with the appointments of Mike Butler and Jade Weaver. In November, the company appointed Ruchama Graff as US head of actuarial.
