Liberty Mutual Insurance is suing a former New York-based insurance agent for allegedly referring customers to a competitor.

The insurer filed the suit last week in federal court, claiming that even before she left the company to join a local independent insurance agency, Michelle Paolicelli had been sending potential clients to another insurer. While she was still with Liberty Mutual, Paolicelli was based in Wappingers Falls.

Liberty Mutual additionally claimed that since Paolicelli’s resignation, the company has received 20 cancellation requests from customers.

Paolicelli is currently an insurance agent at Brinckerhoff & Neuville, based in Fishkill, NY. According to her LinkedIn profile, she is also currently licensed to practice as an insurance agent in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania.

Brinckerhoff and Neuville Insurance Group has been recognized as a Safeco Insurance Preferred Partner agency for the past three years. The company is headed by president and agency principal Steve Pogge, who has over 25 years of experience in the insurance industry. At present, the company has 13 employees between its Fishkill and Cold Spring offices.
