Voters in Louisiana have re-elected Jim Donelon to a fourth term as the state’s insurance commissioner.
In elections held over the weekend, Donelon defeated challenger Tim Temple to win another four-year term. According to The Advocate, the incumbent survived with only 54% of the vote in the contest.
Donelon was first appointed as Louisiana’s insurance commissioner in February 2006, when the seat was vacated in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. He was later elected to fill the unexpired term in 2006 and was re-elected to three consecutive full terms in 2007, 2011, and 2015.
Additionally, Donelon served as the president of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners' (NAIC) in 2013 and currently serves as chairman of the surplus lines taskforce of the NAIC and on its executive committee.
