QBE North America has introduced a media liability endorsement aimed at providing coverage for media organizations facing legal actions under consumer protection laws.
The endorsement offers affirmative coverage in cases where consumer protection laws are used to challenge First Amendment protections. The endorsement is available to media companies seeking additional protection against legal actions tied to consumer protection statutes, which are intended to address false, deceptive, or unfair business practices.
“As our clients focus on storytelling, our role is to give them confidence to create and distribute content across various platforms,” said Chris Cooper, SVP, Media Liability, QBE North America.
Consumer protection laws are increasingly being applied in ways that could impact media organizations' ability to exercise free speech. The expanded coverage helps mitigate financial risks, including legal defense costs and potential losses, the company said.
In recent times, QBE North America has expanded its product offerings and services. Earlier this month, the company announced a new Errors & Omissions (E&O) program designed to provide coverage for property managers. The program includes primary policy limits of $5 million per claim and $5 million in aggregate.
Last year, the company unveiled its healthcare liability practice, which will offer coverage for professional liability, physical and sexual misconduct liability, general liability, employee benefits liability and E&O, among others.
QBE North America also introduced a cyber insurance offering in 2023. It partnered with managing general agent Converge, which serves as the program administrator. The offering was divided into two segments – ConvergeElements and ConvergeConnect. ConvergeElements provides primary and excess cyber coverage through select agents and brokers for companies with revenue up to $100 million, while ConvergeConnect focuses on primary cyber coverage for companies with up to $750 million in annual revenue.
