Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Selective Insurance is upholding its agreement to award summer internships to 50 students by transitioning its Ignite Internship program to a virtual format.

“While Glassdoor estimates a 52% decline in available internships due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Selective adapted its internship program to a virtual format to ensure students have the same opportunities they would have had in the office,” the company said.

The internship program at Selective offers students the chance to work in a corporate setting, learn about career opportunities in the insurance industry, network with senior leadership, and gain experience performing job functions within their departments. This year’s virtual program includes virtual roundtables and lunches, networking and development opportunities, and an “action learning” project that enables teams of interns to solve a business problem for the company and present their recommendations to the executive leadership team.

This summer, Selective hired a total of 50 interns to work in various departments throughout the company, including (but not limited to) underwriting, actuarial, claims, data analysis, marketing, finance, human resources and information technology.
