Sompo International has announced the appointment of Margaret Hyland as president of North America Reinsurance.
Hyland assumes her new role after serving as executive vice president and head of North American professional liability reinsurance at Sompo International. She will report to Christopher Donelan, CEO of Global Reinsurance.
Donelan praised Hyland’s leadership experience and extensive relationships in the (re)insurance industry, stating that her reputation and expertise make her the ideal candidate to lead the North American reinsurance portfolio.
“Our ability to attract and develop the depth of talent on our team is one of our greatest strengths and we are confident Maggie has the reputation and expertise needed to take our business forward,” he said.
Hyland joined Sompo International more than three years ago. She has over 30 years of experience in the North American (re)insurance industry, having held leadership positions with organizations such as Allied World, CNA, Axis Capital, and Willis Re.
Based in Garden City, New York, Hyland holds a Master’s in Business Administration from the Gabelli School of Business at Fordham University and a Bachelor of Arts in Literature and Speech from St. John’s University.
According to a press release, Hyland’s appointment follows the departure of Steven Hanke, who has accepted a position at a leading brokerage firm after nearly ten years with Sompo International Reinsurance.
In his statement, Donelan also commented on Hanke’s departure, thanking him for “helping us build the North America Reinsurance portfolio to where we are today.”
“We are grateful for his contributions to our success and look forward to having the opportunity to work with him again in the future,” he said further.
Last month, Sompo International announced the appointment of Nicolas Burnet as chief financial officer. He succeeded Michael McGuire, who has held the role since 2006.
