The Hanover Insurance Group has appointed new members to its specialty leadership team.

The holding company has named Steven M. Mills president of the company’s excess and surplus (E&S) business. In this role, Mills will utilize The Hanover’s capabilities to deliver E&S solutions for property and casualty businesses, a release said. Mills will help expand the company’s E&S capabilities, which will include building a new retail operation for the company’s key retail agent partners.

Mills joins The Hanover from IFG Companies, where he was serving as senior vice-president and unit head for the company’s primary casualty unit. Before that, he spent over 13 years at AIG in a number of leadership roles, as well as in field and home office underwriting positions. He has also held positions at Liberty Mutual, Citizens Insurance Company, CNA Reinsurance Company and Continental Insurance Company.

In addition to Mills, The Hanover has promoted James H. Kawiecki to president of surety, overseeing contract and commercial surety; Kawiecki was most recently vice-president of contract surety.

The company has also promoted John A. Rowedder to vice president of contract surety, filling Kawiecki’s previous role, in addition to his current role as chief underwriting officer for contract surety.

The Hanover has also added two new roles to further expand its specialty leadership team.

Filling the new role of vice-president of distribution management, professional lines, the company has hired Jon Martin. Martin had served as vice-president of sales and distribution at Berkley FinSecure and will now be in charge of new business initiatives across the company’s management liability, professional liability and healthcare lines of business.

Christopher J. Zaneski has been tapped to assume the newly-created role of vice-president of distribution management, specialty property and casualty lines. His previous role was as assistant vice-president of distribution management at Hanover Specialty Industrial. Now, he will be focused on creating new business opportunities across The Hanover’s specialty industrial property, marine and E&S property and casualty businesses.
