The Travelers Companies has announced that separate fine jewelry policies are now available through its Wedding Protector Plan.

Through the enhanced offering, couples can protect their engagement rings and/or wedding bands with their wedding insurance plan. The jewelry insurance features coverage limits of up to $100,000, a release said.

Citing a recent survey from The Knot, Travelers said that the average value of engagement rings purchased is about $6,000. Despite this, typical homeowners’ insurance policies often have limits for jewelry of up to approximately $1,500.

“Valentine’s Day [yesterday] is one of the most popular days of the year for proposals, and we’re pleased to help make it easier for couples to protect their engagement rings, wedding bands and other valuable jewelry,” said Travelers managing director of personal insurance product management Todd Shasha. “Adding a jewelry policy with the updated Wedding Protector Plan can give couples peace of mind so they can focus on building their future together.”

The Wedding Protector Plan can cover the major events associated with a wedding – including the rehearsal, rehearsal dinner, ceremony, reception, and a post-wedding event. In addition, lost deposits, missing or damaged wedding attire, photos, flowers and more can be covered under a policy starting at $160.

Optional liability coverage is also available under the plan.
