With consumers staying at home more than ever thanks to pandemic restrictions, USAA has responded by reducing homeowners’ and renters’ insurance rates in three states.

The insurer is lowering homeowners’ insurance rates in Ohio and Wisconsin by as much as 4.9%. In addition, USAA is cutting renters’ insurance rates in Colorado by as much as 4.8%.

In a series of company releases, USAA said that the homeowners’ insurance rate cuts will be even bigger for active-duty military members who are customers of the insurer – as much as a 14% decrease for Ohio military customers, and 9% in Wisconsin.

The homeowners’ insurance rate cuts in Wisconsin will save more than $1.5 million for the over 60,000 USAA members in Ohio, and more than $1.1 million for the nearly 25,000 customers in Wisconsin. Meanwhile, the renters’ insurance reduction will help 45,000 customers in Colorado save more than $250,000.

Current members will see the savings apply at policy renewal, while new members will receive the savings at purchase.

“At USAA, we are committed to serving the military community – as they protect our nation,” said USAA property and casualty president and retired US Navy vice admiral Jim Syring. “We are committed to providing competitive products and services that support military families – and rate reductions are just one way we bring our mission to life.”

USAA also encouraged customers to check if they are eligible for additional savings by bunding their auto insurance, which could save them an additional 10% in costs.
