Wholesale broker and managing general agent J.H. Blades has sealed a master underwriting agreement with Lloyd’s re/insurer MS Amlin.

Using J.H. Blades’ tailored policy wording, the new facility will focus on upstream oil and gas liability risks, with clients being onshore and offshore operators that have fully operational extraction facilities in the US and abroad.

“MS Amlin will work with J.H. Blades to source and underwrite a new general liability and (up to) $10 million excess liability book on their behalf,” the Houston-headquartered MGA noted in its emailed announcement.

The intricacies of securing specialist cover in a volatile market were acknowledged by both parties.

Richard Martin, president of J.H. Blades, expressed gratitude towards the Lloyd’s insurer for the initiative, saying: “I would like to thank MS Amlin for their leadership role in this new program and for the resources dedicated to its success.

“MS Amlin is recognized worldwide as an industry leader in the upstream oil and gas class, and J.H. Blades enjoys a similar reputation in the US market, particularly with regard to in-house claims handling and well control consultation.”

Jules Samuel, head of natural resources at MS Amlin, echoed the enthusiasm, highlighting the long-standing relationship between the two entities.

“I’m delighted to support this new partnership with J.H. Blades,” Samuel said. “We have worked with the team at Blades for many years, and we know they have the insight, relationships, and infrastructure to grow this new facility, quickly.

“Likewise, the Blades team knows we have the underwriting experience and market knowledge to support their clients, and this new facility is testament to our position at the forefront of this specialist market in the US oil and gas industry.

“The energy liability market is highly complex and fraught with challenge for clients, and we have a reputation of working with our clients to underwrite their operations today, as well as assist in their transition to more sustainable forms of energy in the future.”
