UnitedHealthcare is adding more device options for the participants of its fitness wearable-powered health program.

With the data transfer expertise of Qualcomm Life, a subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated, UnitedHealthcare has integrated Samsung and Garmin International’s latest wearable devices – Samsung’s Gear Fit2 Pro and Gear Sport, and Garmin’s vívosmart 3 – into its UnitedHealthcare Motion program.

UnitedHealthcare Motion is a wellness program that offers eligible plan participants access to activity trackers and enables them to earn over $1,000 by achieving certain daily walking goals, such as completing 500 steps within seven minutes, six times per day and at least an hour apart.

Qualcomm Life’s 2net platform allows the devices to communicate fitness information using “medical-grade connectivity” while keeping the data secure.

The wellness program is available to employers with self-funded and fully insured health plans nationwide, a release said.

“The enhancements to UnitedHealthcare Motion enable the program to offer companies and their employees more digital health and wellness resources that are personalized, connected and intuitive,” commented UnitedHealthcare chief medical officer Sam Ho, M.D. “We are expanding the portfolio of available devices to make UnitedHealthcare Motion more flexible, convenient and consumer friendly.”
