Desjardins Insurance has announced that it will now offer its Ajusto app to drivers throughout the country on the App Store and Google Play.

Previously only available in Ontario and Quebec, the telematics program is the first in Canada to operate entirely on a mobile platform, eliminating the need to install an external device.

Ajusto is capable of tracking driving behaviors in real time, and as a result, grants users the opportunity to save up to 25% on their auto insurance premium during renewal.  The discount takes into such considerations as driving stability, speed, time of day, and distance.

The app has already received positive feedback.  50% of users saved 10% or more on their auto insurance premiums, and drivers saw a 12% decrease on average.

In addition, the data provided valuable information to encourage safe driving practices, as two-thirds of surveyed users reported being more aware of their acceleration and braking habits.

Non-clients are also encouraged to download the free app to assess their driving behaviors and see whether they would be eligible for a discount upon enrollment with Desjardins.

The company foresees a positive response from the community at large.

"It's a way for us to put our creativity to work and stand out from the competition. And the Ajusto program is also in line with our mission to encourage safe driving, which leads to fewer accidents," Sylvie Paquette, President and COO of Desjardins Insurance, said in a statement.
