Have a client who owns a Range Rover? You may want to check on how secure their parking choices are.

According to the Daily Mail, Range Rover owners are being targeted in a series of thefts across London, England – and high-end auto insurers are refusing to cover these expensive vehicles, unless the owners can prove that they have underground or secure parking.

“Our line-up continues to meet the insurance industry requirements as tested and agreed with relevant bodies,” a spokesman for Jaguar Land Rover told the reporters. “Nevertheless we are takin this issue very seriously.”

Insurers and brokers in the U.K. have asked to discuss the problem with Jaguar for the past three months.

The thieves apparently favour the Range Rover’s luxurious interiors and powerful engines, and the ‘keyless ignition’ systems, which have proven vulnerable to hand-held electronic devices available on eBay which can bypass the security feature.

Between January and July of this year, 294 Range Rover Evoque and Sport vehicles have been stolen in London. That compares to only 63 BMW X5s – a comparable vehicle – during the same seven-month period.

One Range Rover owner who bought a new Range Rover this month after the previous one was stolen had difficulty finding an insurer, and was according to the Daily Mail told by jaguar that it was “his matter to resolve” to find coverage.

The commercial property advisor, Keith Dowley, eventually found coverage from another provider.
