Atlantic Canada-based Archway Insurance has announced the acquisition of George Mitchell Insurance in Liverpool, Nova Scotia, taking the growing brokerage’s number of locations up to 24, with approximately 57,000 clients and $115 million in premium volume.

“We welcome the employees and clients of George Mitchell Insurance to Archway Insurance,” said Archway Insurance president Gina McFetridge. “Similar to Archway, this brokerage has its roots as a family business with strong local community values. We look forward to continuing these traditions while enhancing the services and products available to our new clients.”

The deal, which is effective February 28, 2019, is set to increase Mitchell’s commercial capabilities, along with adding life, travel, and employee benefits products to its client offerings. As part of the Archway family, the broker will also gain access to more personal insurance options for clients.

“I’ve known the Stack Family for many years and they’re a truly great Atlantic Canadian family business,” commented Don Abbey, of George Mitchell Insurance. “When it came to selling our brokerage, our choice was Archway Insurance because of their principles and values. We wanted to make sure our employees would enjoy their work environment, and we appreciate the terrific support we know they will receive from Archway.”

Moving forward, it’s business as usual for both firms. George Mitchell’s current employees will stay in the existing Liverpool location, providing a smooth transition for clients.
