This brokerage “in its infancy” won the Insurance Business award for “Best Brokerage Over 10 People” last year – and would love a repeat of their 2016 success.

Shaun McPherson, managing partner at Platform Insurance Management, said the company was humbled by its awards success. In a Q&A with Insurance Business, he spelled out why it is important for brokers and brokerages to be celebrated within the industry.

What did it mean for your company to win the award for best brokerage over 10 people?
“As a company that was still in its infancy, to secure the recognition of your industry peers as a leading brokerage was truly a humbling experience and came as quite the surprise. While we still feel we have room to grow, the recognition that this award brought within the industry certainly helped with our continued development. Recruiting, market relations, client prospecting and client retention all saw a boost from the award and certainly contributed to the significant growth we’ve encountered since last year.”

What did it mean for your staff to have that moment and share that award together?
“For the night itself, we brought our entire team together to share in the evening and enjoy the festivities, not expecting to win. Winning the award was a great moment for our entire team and definitely a cause for celebration. To receive the recognition of our peers provided our entire team with a sense of pride and belief that our hard work and dedication wasn’t going unnoticed and was valued, not just by Platform, but by the industry as a whole. The evening brought our team together in a way that we could have never imagined and we were truly grateful for the experience.”

How important do you feel it is to recognize industry success formally, at events like these?
“Our industry is filled with hard working individuals that are dedicated to providing a level of service that goes above and beyond what is expected of them. Many sacrifice their personal time to ensure they meet the ever-changing and demanding needs of their clients and they take significant pride in the service levels they provide. To have these efforts recognized by your peers can prove deeply satisfying to both individuals and companies and provide continued incentive to deliver results for our industry. With that in mind, we believe it is key for the industry to continue to recognize those individuals and companies that go above-and-beyond in promoting our industry’s brand.”

Has last year’s award been extra motivation for this year? Are you trying to go back-to-back?
“As the inaugural winner of the award, we certainly would love to continue this with a back-to-back performance, however we recognize that there are a number of great firms out there that are also up for consideration. While the award is in the back of our mind, all we can do is continue to execute on the promise we made to our clients to deliver top-tier service and industry expertise. If we can achieve that, we know our team will be successful.”

The Insurance Business Awards ceremony is taking place at The Liberty Grand, Toronto, on November 30. This year, it will once again shine the brightest light on the outstanding companies and individuals of 2017. Winners and finalists will be showcased in Insurance Business Magazine and Insurance Business online over the year. Nominations for the awards close on September 20.
