As the world makes a colossal combined effort to mitigate the effects of climate change hopes of billions of people are riding on the right choices being made. For that reason it’s always a concern when research emerges that seems to contradict what we thought was the right direction. A report from University of Toronto’s Chris Kennedy claims that electric cars generate more carbon than gasoline powered ones but it depends where they are. Citing the oil producing provinces of Canada the professor says that because they produce their electricity by burning coal gasoline is a greener option. In other parts of Canada though the electric motor would be the greener option as natural gas or hydroelectric power stations generate less carbon than coal-burning ones.
