Canada Life announced Tuesday that it has acquired Santé Circle Health, a provider of disability management and occupational health services.

A news release highlighted that Santé Circle Health is recognized for its capabilities in early intervention, provider management, and digital intake, supporting timely recovery and return-to-work outcomes.

Julia McGillis, executive vice-president of Workplace Benefits & Retirement at Canada Life, said the deal advances the company’s broader strategy for its disability services.

“Strong disability management plays an important role in how we support plan members and deliver value for plan sponsors,” McGillis said. “This acquisition supports our strategy to strengthen and modernize our disability offering in ways that matter most to members and customers.”

According to the Winnipeg-based insurer, Canada Life and Santé Circle Health share a focus on improving recovery outcomes and helping people return to work and daily life with confidence.

The company said disability management is an important part of the value group benefits provide Canadians, influencing member experience, sponsor confidence, and long-term outcomes. It added that Santé Circle Health’s capabilities complement Canada Life’s existing disability case management strengths and create opportunities to improve outcomes over time.

Canada Life said the transition will not immediately affect Santé Circle Health’s workforce or business relationships. There are no changes for Santé Circle Health employees, clients, or suppliers at this time. Santé Circle Health will continue to operate as an independent organization with its own leadership team and employees.

Over time, Canada Life said it expects to explore complementary opportunities that build on the strengths of both organizations and support improved member outcomes and experience.

Canada Life has noted that mental health issues are increasingly becoming a significant concern in workplaces across Canada and has produced research examining the impact of mental health on disability claims and offering strategies for creating a supportive workplace.

A 2025 report by Sun Life Financial found mental health issues accounted for 40% of long-term disability claims, with women (45%) more likely than men (33%) to file a mental health claim.
