The Insurance Institute of Canada’s CIP Society has appointed several new members to its National Council, expanding its representation of professionals from across the country.

The most recent appointments, announced in August, include Kamran Afshar of Intact in Ontario and Deanne Taylor of Burns & Wilcox in Newfoundland and Labrador. Earlier in April, the Society named Simion Prodan of Co-operators in New Brunswick, Josiane Berube of Wynward in Quebec, Martin Moran of BFL Canada in British Columbia, Matthew Friesen of Western Financial Group in Manitoba, and Isaac Kangave of SGI Canada in Alberta.

The National Council, chaired by Renée-Léa Soucy, provides leadership on behalf of CIP Society members. It oversees initiatives that advance professional development, promote thought leadership, and encourage collaboration across the insurance community. Members are drawn from a wide cross-section of insurers, brokerages, and intermediaries, reflecting the geographic and professional diversity of Canada’s property and casualty sector.

According to the Insurance Institute, the Council plays an important role in guiding the CIP Society’s contribution to the broader industry. Its work includes supporting research projects, shaping professional education, and encouraging ongoing learning among insurance professionals. Peter Hohman, president and CEO of the Institute, said the addition of new council members strengthens the Society’s ability to support p&c practitioners across Canada.

The CIP Society serves as the alumni association for graduates of the Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP®) and Fellow Chartered Insurance Professional programs. It provides a forum for networking, knowledge sharing, and advocacy on issues that affect the insurance industry. Through the National Council, members often contribute to research papers and policy discussions that address emerging risks, regulatory changes, and market trends.

By welcoming new members to its leadership body, the CIP Society is reinforcing its commitment to professional development and ensuring that the perspectives of practitioners from different regions and disciplines continue to shape the future of Canada’s insurance industry.
