Canadian Automobile Association (CAA) of South Central Ontario announced yesterday that due to a sudden spike in winter weather activity, its capacity to provide roadside service has been severely hindered.

According to the auto club, the areas most impacted by this development include Wellington County, Perth, London, Barrie, Collingwood, Alliston and New Tecumseth.

“Blowing snow, high winds, low visibility and extreme cold has made many of the roads hazardous, making it difficult for our vehicles to arrive on scene to assist,” the association said in a release. “In addition, there have been a number of road and highway closures in the affected areas, further hampering our assistance efforts.”

The auto club is advising stranded members in the area to contact the Ontario Provincial Police for assistance. Other motorists not in the area were advised to simply remain at home or off the roads.

The CAA additionally instructed members stuck waiting for service in the aforementioned affected areas that if an opportunity for faster service or safe transport arrives before the auto club, they should take it and contact the CAA immediately. The auto club stated that it would reimburse the costs associated with the alternate service.
