Two of the businesses of Marsh & McLennan, Guy Carpenter and Marsh, have today announced the appointment of Dean Klisura (pictured) as president of Guy Carpenter, effective October 01, 2020. Klisura, who will report to Peter Hearn, CEO of Guy Carpenter, joins the business following a 27-year career at Marsh which has seen him take on a range of senior roles, including most recently as president of global placement and advisory.

In the newly-created role, Klisura’s duties will include responsibility for Guy Carpenter’s North America, international, speciality and global strategic advisory units and he will assist Hearn in leading the firm’s overall strategic direction.

Commenting on the appointment, Hearn said: “Dean’s deep relationships with insurance carriers and his knowledge of our industry will serve Guy Carpenter well. His leadership of Marsh’s placement operations, especially during this challenging time for the insurance industry, will provide our team with critical insights as they develop innovative solutions to help our clients navigate this rapidly-changing market.”

Meanwhile, Kilsura noted that this is a time of significant market change and insurance companies are looking for new ways to manage their risk portfolios and identify growth opportunities. By building on the relationships he has formed with carriers over many years at Marsh, he said, he is looking forward to working with Guy Carpenter’s leadership team and colleagues “to deliver the data-driven, market-leading solutions our clients need.”

In light of Klisura’s appointment, Lucy Clarke, president of Marsh JLT Specialty, will undertake additional responsibility for Marsh’s global placement operations. Marsh Advisory will report to Flavia Piccolomini, president of Marsh International, and Martin South, president of Marsh US and Canada.

President and CEO of Marsh, John Q. Doyle said: “I continue to be proud of the way Marsh and its colleagues around the world have risen to the challenge to help our clients this year. Under the leadership of Lucy, Flavio and Martin, we will build on the advantage and strength of our placement and advisory services for clients. All of us at Marsh wish Dean well in his new role.”
