iA Financial Group has named Alain Bergeron executive vice president and chief investment officer of the company, effective September 03, 2019.

As CIO, Bergeron will be responsible for managing the company’s assets. He will also join the company’s planning committee as part of his new role. The committee is chaired by iA Financial president and CEO Denis Ricard. Together with his team, Bergeron will directly report to Ricard.

He succeeds Michel Tremblay, who retired at the end of May.

Bergeron was most recently a senior vice president with Mackenzie Investments – a role he had served for the last six years. In that role, he was responsible for the asset allocation and portfolio management of $20 billion of multi-asset portfolios and liquid alternatives. Prior to joining Mackenzie Investments, he had spent more than 10 years at the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, where he held a number of position of increasing responsibility in asset allocation and portfolio management.

He began his career in sales and trading with TD Securities.

Bergeron is a graduate of HEC Montreal, with a Master of Sciences degree in financial engineering. He also has the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and Chartered Market Technician (CMT) designations.
