iA Financial Corporation has appointed Alka Gautam to its board of directors, effective January 17.
Gautam has over two decades of experience in the reinsurance and insurance sectors, boasting an expansive career marked by several senior leadership positions.
In 2019, Gautam was named executive vice president of global operations at Reinsurance Group of America (RGA). She also served as president and CEO of RGA Life Reinsurance Company of Canada, among other roles.
Before her tenure at RGA, Gautam held several positions at KPMG. She ultimately progressed to senior manager in the Financial Institutions and Real Estate Group, where she stayed from 1996 to 2000.
Gautam is an alumna of Dalhousie University. She has a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Business Administration. Additionally, she holds the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nova Scotia (CPA) designation and the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD.D) designation.
Remarking on her appointment, Gautam wrote the following note on her LinkedIn page:
“I am very excited to announce that I have joined the board of directors of iA Financial Corporation this month. I am honoured to be among such a group of esteemed and diverse professionals who serve on the board of directors. From the position of a reinsurer, I have always greatly admired iA Financial Corporation, its strong leadership and its culture, and I can’t wait to be part of the team!”
iA Financial Corporation’s board of directors is chaired by Jacques Martin. With Gautam’s addition, it now consists of 16 directors – 15 of whom are independent, and 50% are women.
Gautam’s appointment follows that of Martin Gagnon, who joined iA Financial Corporation’s board of directors last November. Gagnon was additionally appointed to the board of Industrial Alliance Insurance and Financial Services, which is also under the iA Financial Group.
