The Insurance Institute of Canada's (IIC) Insurance Career Connections division has launched the Insurance Careers Platform, a portal built with Canadian provider Kibbi Technologies to connect property and casualty (P&C) employers and job seekers across the country.

The platform is intended to act as a central hub for P&C talent at a time when attraction and retention remain major pressure points for Canadian insurers and brokers, with demographic research pointing to significant retirements over the next several years and a thin pipeline of mid-career professionals.

“With the Insurance Careers Platform, we strive to assist our employer partners and the Canadian P&C industry at large in their recruitment needs, while also helping job seekers at various career stages to find a place in insurance,” said Peter Hohman, president and CEO of The Insurance Institute of Canada. “Our goal is to consolidate the various aspects of the insurance job searching and hiring journey within this platform.”

Single hub for P&C roles and candidates

The Institute is positioning the platform as a way to reach people already interested in insurance, rather than competing in broader labor markets where awareness of P&C careers can be limited.

Rather than searching across multiple generalist job boards, candidates will be able to use the platform to find P&C employers and opportunities in a single location. Through the Job Board, users can follow employer profiles, see open roles, and apply directly.

A Talent Directory allows job seekers to upload résumés and build out detailed profiles that employers can search to identify and contact potential hires. The tool is designed to cater both to new entrants and experienced professionals looking to move within the sector.

Mobile app and real-time engagement

A free Insurance Careers Platform mobile app is also scheduled to launch shortly and will sync with users’ web profiles. The app will allow candidates to receive SMS and email notifications from employers about new positions and will include a job-mapping feature showing where companies are hiring in their local area and across Canada.

The tech backbone, provided by Kibbi, is already used in other Canadian sector-specific talent communities and emphasizes real-time search, localized matching, and employer-branding tools rather than simple static listings.

The launch builds on Insurance Career Connections’ existing outreach, including campus events, ambassador programs, and campaigns to attract students, career changers, and newcomers into P&C roles.

Tiered subscriptions for employers

On the employer side, the platform offers tiered subscription options aligned with hiring needs and scale.

A Pro subscription, aimed at small and mid-sized insurance organizations and brokerages, lets firms create an employer profile within the portal, highlight their brand, showcase current openings, and communicate directly with interested candidates.

An Enterprise subscription adds automated integration with an employer’s existing careers site. Job postings from corporate career pages can be imported into the Insurance Careers Platform’s Job Board, giving larger insurers and brokers that post higher volumes of roles a way to increase visibility without changing how they manage applications. Those employers can continue to track candidates through their existing applicant tracking systems while using the platform as an additional recruitment channel.

Combatting persistent staffing challenges

The launch comes against a backdrop of persistent staffing challenges. Industry studies have flagged an aging workforce, increasing retirements in underwriting, claims, and broking, and growing competition for people with the digital and analytical skills needed to support data, automation, and AI initiatives.

Broker and carrier surveys over the past two years have repeatedly identified talent as a top business risk, with many firms reporting difficulty both in sourcing experienced staff and in retaining newer hires once trained.

Within that context, an industry-run, insurance-specific careers platform is intended to provide a more coordinated response. For large carriers and brokers, it offers another recruiting channel focused solely on P&C. For smaller and regional firms, it provides access to a national talent pool and tools to raise their profile with prospective candidates. For job seekers, it brings together roles and employers from across the sector, with the potential to make P&C careers more visible relative to other industries competing for the same skills.

The initiative also aligns with broader efforts by the IIC and its partners to formalize and promote entry paths into insurance (such as through post-secondary programs, fast-track certificates, and professional designations) and to position the industry as a long-term career destination for a more diverse and digitally fluent workforce.
