A record field of 580 runners and almost 200 volunteers at the 2016 Rogers Insurance Run for L'Arche together raised more than $38,000 for Calgary's L'Arche community of adults with developmental disabilities Saturday.

The Rogers Insurance Run for L'Arche, now in its sixth consecutive year, has raised more than $200,000 for L'Arche Calgary's homes and programs, where adults with developmental disabilities in a community designed with them in mind.

"For six years now, the great people at Rogers Insurance and Economical Insurance have sponsored this event and we are truly thankful for their support," said David Tod, director of development at L'Arche Calgary. "In these tough economic times in Alberta, it's great see companies like and Rogers and Economical giving. They are making a big difference for the better in the Calgary community."

Employees from Rogers Insurance -- one of Canada's largest independent insurance brokerages -- and property and casualty insurers Economical Insurance, participated in the run and also volunteered to set up and manage the event.
Economical Insurance has been the event’s presenting sponsor since its inception in 2011, and has committed to being the presenting sponsor for another three years.

"We could not pull this off without Economical's support," said Bruce Rabik, chief operating officer at Rogers Insurance. "This is a partnership that makes a direct and truly important impact in Calgary. L'Arche is a fantastic organization that really impacts the lives of some of our most vulnerable citizens and provides an example to all of us of how diversity makes us stronger."

L’Arche Calgary has five homes in Calgary, a Supported Independent Living Program and a Day Program.

Free registration was offered to those who had been recently laid-off, in recognition of the trying times in the downturn-hit province.
