Rogers Insurance has announced the winner of its social media contest, in commemoration of its 40th anniversary.

In the #RogersDreamBig contest, Alberta locals participating in the event were invited to upload a video or photo on Rogers Insurance’s Facebook page that would describe what they would want to do if they were given $5,000. The winner of the contest, determined through public votes, would then be given the cash reward.

After securing 500 votes online, Rogers president Lee Rogers and COO Bruce Rabik finally announced Bonnie and Frankie Hynes of Fort McMurray as the winners of the contest. According to a release, the money will help provide the Hynes with funds to “grow their family by two feet” after the couple ran aground of fertility issues. During the contest, the couple revealed that the only way for them to conceive a child would be through in vitro fertilization – but the costs involved with the process, along with the travel expenses involved, held them back.

“We wanted to celebrate our anniversary by giving back to the communities that we live and work in. We are proud to be a part of this touching story,” said Rogers. “We are proudly Alberta based, with offices in Calgary, Red Deer, and Fort McMurray – and we wanted all Albertans to get the chance to Dream Big in 2017.”

Rogers Insurance employees hold a similar program each year where four winners are announced at their annual Christmas party.

A release said that the cheque will be presented to the Hynes couple at the Rogers Insurance Fort McMurray office.
