Global specialty insurer and reinsurer SiriusPoint has announced the appointment of Justin Brenden as chief actuary, subject to approval by the Bermuda Department of Immigration.

In his new role, Brenden (pictured above) will lead the company’s actuarial organization, with responsibility for reserving and aligning pricing to further its objective of improving underwriting profitability. He will be based in Bermuda and will report to David Junius, chief financial officer for SiriusPoint.

Prior to the merger between Sirius Group and Third Point Re, Brenden served as executive vice president and chief reserving actuary at Third Point Re. He joined Third Point Re in its first year of operation and played a significant role in the company’s growth and development. Brenden began his career as an actuarial consultant at Ernst & Young.

Justin will be instrumental in advancing our efforts to build a highly effective and business-oriented actuarial function, which will further efforts to position our business for sustainable underwriting profitability.” 

Brenden is a regular speaker at industry events and has held several leadership roles for industry organizations, including serving a recent term as vice president for the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS). This year, he was elected to serve on the board of directors of the CAS, of which he is also a fellow. Brenden is also a fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries, a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter, and the co-author of a current textbook for CAS actuarial exams.
