Sompo International Holdings, a specialty provider of property-casualty insurance and reinsurance, has announced that it will expand its general aviation offering. The company has appointed Peter Buckley (pictured above) as vice president of aerospace to develop this segment of its business.

“As a long-standing market leader in aerospace insurance, we are pleased to be able to expand our offer to the growing general aviation sector, leveraging the Sompo International network and quality capacity to grow our business globally,” said Andrew Metcalf, senior vice president of London market aerospace for Sompo International. “Peter will be responsible for developing our general aviation book outside the US as well as in the London wholesale market.

“Enhancing our offering in this space requires building stronger, closer and more productive relationships with our clients and brokers worldwide, and Peter brings extensive experience to a diverse team that draws on a range of knowledge, technical expertise and insights to deliver better outcomes for brokers and insureds.”

Buckley has more than 20 years of experience in the aviation insurance space and has served as an underwriter in the UK and Singapore. Prior to joining Sompo International, he worked at Cincinnati Global Underwriting. Buckley trained as a commercial pilot and holds a Bachelor of Engineering in avionics from the University of London.
