Global reinsurance firm Swiss Re has appointed Monica Ningen as president and CEO of Swiss Re Canada & English Caribbean, effective July 01.

Ningen is well-known in the reinsurance world. She has more than 20 years of experience in the industry, starting her career as a reinsurance broker at E.W. Blanch before joining Swiss Re in 2006 when the organization acquired GE Insurance Solutions.

Since joining Swiss Re, Ningen has held several leadership roles in property underwriting, most recently as head of property underwriting US & Canada. In her new role, she will be based in Toronto.

“Monica’s business experience and strong leadership skills will be a key asset in helping Swiss Re to grow our business and client relationships in Canada and the English Caribbean,” commented J. Eric Smith, president and CEO, Swiss Re Americas. “I wish her the best in this new opportunity.”

Smith also expressed his thanks to outgoing president and CEO Veronica Scotti for “her many contributions in Canada.”

Scotti, who joined Swiss Re in 1999 and held several leadership positions in Client Markets before taking on the Canada role, has now been named chairperson of Global Partnerships. She will relocate to Zurich with her family in early August.
