The Canadian government has announced that it is bringing in an adviser from the insurance group of Boston Consulting Group (BCG) to help the country entice more investment from global firms.

BCG Toronto senior partner and managing director Kilian Berz will join the Privy Council Office, Bloomberg reported. Berz confirmed that he will continue to serve at BCG and will not be paid for his advisory work in the government.

Berz explained that his focus will be on managing ministries, provinces and municipalities in enticing investment in Canada from major global firms.

“I’m honored by the mandate and I look forward to working with the Prime Minister on this opportunity,” Berz said. He also added that he was drawn to the role of adviser by “an unparalleled opportunity for Canada to share the advantages we have as a country.”

Bloomberg noted that Berz will join the Canadian delegation to the World Economic Forum in Davos this week, where he will offer insight on foreign investment from a private-sector perspective.

Berz joined BCG in 1995. The economist is currently a member of the financial institutions and insurance groups of the management consulting firm. He is also a graduate of Oxford University and the University of Bonn.
