Revealing the list ahead of Canada Day, Rideau Hall announced the latest appointees into the Order of Canada, reported CBC News. In particular, two insurance executives made the list.

Established in 1967, the Order of Canada is one of the country’s highest civilian honours, second only to the Order of Merit. Members of the Order are recognized for their achievements in their respective fields or have displayed exemplary dedication or service to their community and country.

Occasionally, non-Canadians are inducted into the Order, in recognition of their actions that have made the world better in some way.

Yvon Charest, president and CEO of Industrial Alliance Insurance and Financial Services, was inducted as an Officer of the Order. He has served as president and CEO of the company since May 2000. As leader of the company, Charest espoused sustainability and social responsibility. Notably, iA Financial Group donated $3.9 million to almost 500 causes last year.

Gregory Hanson is the former president and CEO of Wawanesa Mutual Insurance Co, and he was chosen as one of the new Members of the Order of Canada. Currently, Hanson is an active and ardent supporter of non-profit organizations, serving as chairman for both United Way Campaign for Winnipeg and the Winnipeg Foundation.
