The employees of one major player in the life and health insurance market surpassed the million dollar fund-raising mark for United Way – but the real winners are the brokers who are benefiting from the positive community feedback.

Industrial Alliance Insurance and Financial Services employees announced total contributions of $1,095,597 to the United Way for 2013 – the first time the fourth-largest life and health insurer in Canada crested the million-dollar mark.

“We are very pleased with this fantastic result which is a testament to our employees' great generosity and their unwavering commitment to United Way across Canada,” said Yvon Charest, president and CEO of Industrial Alliance. “Industrial Alliance employees showed a lot of determination and creativity to reach this record contribution amount, which is very much to their credit.”

In addition to making personal contributions to the United Way campaign, Industrial Alliance employees were involved in various fund-raising activities throughout the year from British Columbia to the Maritimes.

At the head office in Quebec City, Que., employees organized sales of prepared food dishes, Halloween and Easter chocolates and Mother's Day flowers. In Montreal, employees participated in the United Way special of the popular game show La Guerre des clans, took part in the Centraide Cup 2013 soccer tournament at Stade Saputo and organized flower and handbag sales.

In Toronto, employees climbed the CN Tower, took part in a ping pong tournament and organized a pumpkin-decorating and a cupcake contest. Vancouver employees held a silent auction, a 50/50 draw and a karaoke contest among other activities.
