With the Internet a first point of contact with clients, consumer expectations around customer service have begun to evolve, cautions a leader in industry education.

According to Lola Thake, Director of Education for the Insurance Brokers Association of Ontario, brokers can learn how to engage with their customers on a number of platforms by upgrading their skillset through workshops, like the latest offerings of broker educational courses slated for this month.

“With recent changes in the industry, brokers can rely on the IBAO to provide them with the skills, tips and tricks to help them run their brokerage,” says Thake. “By attending these workshops, brokers will be armed with the essential techniques and confidence to combat the impending changes to the Ontario insurance market.”

For brokers who feel disconnected or unsure about the components of digital marketing, says Thake, they can learn how they can all work together to generate leads through the course, ‘Attracting Quality Prospects through Online Presence.’

By creating a content strategy for their social media communication, discovering how to increase traffic to the website with Google adwords – and the promise of how to earn 200 new contacts using LinkedIn – the brokers’ book of business will grow, says Thake. (continued.)

“They will also be provided with leverage tools to help generate content and manage their social presence,” she says.

Bill Morris, a partner at Navicom who held a seminar at the IBAO offices in October on how to connect with the 21st century consumer, told Insurance Business that “as much as brokers do a great job in meeting customer’s needs, they are not taking advantage of fully engaging the client by investing in their online presence.”

Morris points to 80 per cent of consumers starting their search for insurance by going online.
