Manitoba Public Insurance has found a unique way to serve notification of a court date – and all you need is a woman in a bikini and a Facebook message.

But for the man who opened the Facebook message only to find a court summons, he felt that MPI used “poor judgment.”

According to court documents, MPI had contacted Andrew Mykichuk’s family and had tried several addresses before messaging him on Facebook.

As for Mykichuk, he says that he has no plans to reply to the summons.

“I mean, I'm not the best person to judge other people,” Mykichuk told reporters, “but at the same time, this is a Crown corporation.''

Brian Smiley, a spokesman for MPI, says the tactic worked, adding the agency only uses social media as a last resort and must get permission from the court.

“A profile was created of a female in a bikini and again reaching out to a male on Facebook to get his attention. And it certainly worked,” Smiley told CTV News.

The picture of the woman in the bikini was taken from a public website.
