In response to the major hailstorm that occurred over Calgary and the surrounding area, the Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC) has deployed its remote insurance guidance program in the area to help local consumers with their insurance information needs.

IBC’s virtual Community Assistance Mobile Pavilion (CAMP) is a national program deployed to areas that have undergone disasters, allowing those affected to easily access insurance-related information. The program is staffed with insurance industry experts who are on hand at IBC’s Consumer Information Centre.

“Following the devastating hailstorm, we want to ensure that consumers know we are here to help,” said IBC Western vice-president Celyeste Power. “Severe weather events like these are not only costly but cause significant turmoil and stress for homeowners. IBC and insurers are ready to assist residents and businesses that have suffered damage.”

According to IBC, more than 20,000 claims related to the Calgary hailstorm have been reported to insurers, so far.

“Even with COVID-19 and flood recovery underway in Northern Alberta, the insurance industry has representatives available to assist consumers in making a claim and assessing their damage,” Power added. “Anyone with questions about insurance can contact their insurance representative or IBC’s Consumer Information Centre. We’re here to help.”
