IBC provides support to Atlantic Canadians impacted by wildfires

Catastrophe & Flood

As wildfires spread in Tantallon and Barrington Lake in Nova Scotia, as well as Stein Lake near Saint Andrews in New Brunswick, the Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC) has mobilized its Community Assistance Mobile Pavilion (CAMP) to offer insurance information and assistance to affected residents.

According to a press release, IBC is working closely with provincial governments, emergency management officials, and municipal authorities to provide support as the wildfires continue to pose a threat to the communities in the region.

Starting today, IBC’s CAMP staff will be available at the Canada Games Centre in Halifax to address insurance-related queries for Nova Scotia consumers and business owners affected by fire damage.

Those unable to visit the physical CAMP location can reach out to IBC’s consumer information centre by phone at 1-844-2ask-IBC (1-844-227-5422) or via email at [email protected].

“While firefighting efforts continue, the ongoing wildfires in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick have resulted in the loss of multiple properties,” said Amanda Dean, IBC’s Atlantic vice president. “Our hearts go out to the individuals and families whose lives have been disrupted and whose property has been damaged.”

“We extend a heartfelt thank you to all the first responders who have been working tirelessly to protect lives and property in the affected regions. Rest assured, anyone whose property or vehicle was damaged can contact their insurance representative when they are ready to start the claims process.”

As the situation develops, the Nova Scotia government is regularly updating its emergency alerts and information webpage. Meanwhile, residents in New Brunswick can access the latest wildfire information through the government’s public advisories website and Forest Fire Watch website.

IBC’s CAMP is staffed with trained insurance industry personnel who can provide guidance on home, business, or vehicle insurance policies. Consumers are also encouraged to visit IBC’s Wildfires webpage to learn more about insurance coverage and the different stages of the claims process.
