The provincial government of Ontario has announced that residents of the town of Mattawa can now apply for financial support.

The town declared a state of emergency last month after the Otto Holden Dam released water into the Ottawa and Mattawa rivers, which resulted in flooding in communities along the rivers. Roads were closed, and some people were asked to evacuate their homes.

Last week, Ontario said that it is activating the Disaster Recovery Assistance program, which “applies to a primary residence and its basic contents, or to a small business, farm or not-for-profit organization.”

CBC News reported that residents have until September 26 to apply for the funding.
